Katie + Lucas, MASS MoCA

North Adams, MA

There were a few clues that made it apparent after meeting with Lucas and Katie that this was not going to be a traditional Berkshire wedding. It began with the choice of Halloween as their wedding date and continued when Lucas and Katie indicated they wished to have the cocktail hour and the ceremony in a MASS MoCA stairwell. (A beautiful stairwell nonetheless.) Their vision really paid off and we were thrilled to be a part of it. The cocktail hour came first with Mezze Catering staff passing hors d’oeuvres in the stairwell on the three different landings. Guests signed the guest “wishing tree” by writing notes on cards and then attaching to the tree. Near the end of the cocktail hour, we indicated to guests to direct their attention to the farthest landing. Then out of the Sol Lewitt Gallery on one side came the bride just about dancing down the stairs to a very hip processional song, to Lucas who was waiting for her at the other end of the gallery. The lighting design of the stairwell was amazing and gave the space an additional hint of glamour.

Folllowing the wedding ceremony, guests were invited to the MASS MoCA lobby where they enjoyed small-plate stations of food that included Moroccan braised chicken with couscous, Jameson’s High Meadow Farm lamb with fingerlings and beet + chevre salad. Dessert included wedding cake, local apple crisp + cookies. In the lobby, a variety of table sizes were placed around the room. Katie chose ten different colors for linens that reflected the colorful themes of the Sol Lewitt gallery. Each table had a monochromatic floral centerpiece reflecting the linen color.

We wanted to say again how completely [bleep] awesome you made our wedding! It was exactly what we wanted it to be, and the food was delicious and even better than the tasting (somehow), and we got so many compliments, and… well, it was all so brilliant. Please thank your staff deeply and sincerely for the both of us. They were out of this world.
